How good can the BIG update possibly be, if it doesn't contain any skill changes? Zilch, nana...

Perhaps you need reminding that the skills mechanics form the basis of your entire game? Then again, the design philosophy seems to have taken second place to money making a long time ago.

How dissapointing, yet again.

Large updates like the one later this month takes a LARGE amount of man-hours, And a lot of people don't understand that.
All I've gathered about this HUUUGE update is another modification to the Storage. Seriously, how many man-hours do you think adding something like that costs?
Semi-balancing the skills isnt all that hard at all, you just have to have a quick glance at a bit of PVE and a bit of PVP, heck, even read the hottest topics on guru, and you should know what is wrong. Skill balance doesnt necessarily mean you have to adjust every skill in the game..
but w/e, guess I'll have to make a sin . And make a couple of trades ;x

No skill updates? Did someone broke your "random-skill update generator" application?

all the pve carebears can gtfo now you have no idea what you're talking about. some people play this game for other reasons than having 2 sets of fissure 1 black and 1 white and needing somewhere to put the one not in use.

there is a reason to be angry and call anet out believe it or not. the pvp community spoon feeds anet with information unlike any other game all they have to do is implement things. there is reason to be critical we're talking about two different sides of the spectrum and comparing competition and skill to looking good and farming. maybe if anet would get things together they'd have enough financial backing to support more employees such as WoW and please many.

when the game is very close to an all time diversity compared to the last couple of years and being ruined by skills like foul feast, warriors endurance, etc there's no reason to delay. nothing needs to be changed other than variables. infact if you'd rather waste no time and give these skills the smiters boon treatment there'd be no reason to test anything because nobody would ever try it. nobody is complaining about how many times the game was messed up because of an update when the sole focus was gw1, but to tell your customers your throwing them under the bus to put your 5 hamsters to work on a squeal is ridiculous. oh ya and we want you to buy it as well.

it's not that gw wasn't a great game but why settle for less when there is something greater to strive for? the player base would be much larger if other things were updated as well. other than adding new maps in the expansion what else has been done? maps in AB etc have been the same for years. frozen isle is the only completely balanced map in the game. what's the excuse for not dealing with the symmetrical problem on the catapult maps or the easy collapse bridge on imperial or the unplayability of dead isle and nomads?

instead you're busy playing around with some april fools joke that is completely absurd and not funny and took exponentially longer time than any skill balance would take.

this update cannot wait

im pretty disappointed that the skill balance has been delayed, mainly because i feel like 'balance' is in sight just around the corner. i feel like many builds would be viable if you would just nerf the few problem skills that are available at the moment

Another month with lingering necro, smiters, we warriors and pnh monks. Looking forward facing 1warrspike in the mat and nH builds a lot.

The pvp community is obviously not big enough to get a little update at least (5-6 skills would have been enough).

well, after reading those 6 pages of whine and anger I must admit that nothing interesting have been said. Sad for the supporters/detractors of Anet.

As everyone, even if they don't have a clue about what they're talking about, except game's experience, I will say what I think about that situation. Not that my comment matters but whatever. First of all, there are those who think that Regina will pass the word around...Fools, she is only here to tell us what Anet have to tell us but in a beautiful and politically correct way. No offense but this job is only a communication one, and furthermore one-sided - from Anet to us, no complaint can be heard through the forums.

Second, I would say that I quite agree with InfernalSuffering on page 4 ( lazy me, don't want to quote ). The player base is divided in two as everyone's aware of, PvPers and PvErs. The former want Skill Updates because each month has brought its load of disappointment through "new fonctionnalities"," reverted back to previous values", etc.. Thus the pvp base is dwindling because noone wants to play another month without skill updates, even if this means that they get Imba/broken/overpowered skills. PvErs are PvErs, they want objects, accomplishments, title, grind etc. Basically, they'll always find a way through skill updates to farm a new or an ancient place. My point is that even if everything is very well thought up on the company's side, players will always find a way to farm ( for example the first 55, barrager, trapper, SF and its numerous variants,...), each one of these examples were the result of a skill updates or a breakthrough on the players' side.

Third, I also quite agree with the offensive Lutz, because skill updates are compulsory to keep having a game running and players not turning their backs to it. A "big" change in PvE needs time to be built, this is obvious, but as it was said, this update was announced months ago.

Fourth and last, there is always a comparison with the quality of the WoW updates. I can ensure everyone, and I think that a lot of people who also are playing WoW will agree, updates there are controversial. Big updates like this upcoming PvE update, or smaller updates like skill changes, they are all very well argued upon on forums. My point is that on top of that WoW is a much more PvE-oriented game than GW is, thanks to 5-man, 10-man or 25-man dungeons. Those who play both won't disagree. Guild wars is much more various on its ways to PvP.

That's why a game which is leaning much more toward PvP must prioritize PvP updates.

tl;dr: Summary of the situation, plus personal opinion, nothing fantastic.

Anet has gone down the route of the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. It's my opinion that the greater portion of the player-base interacts with PvE moreso than PvP so this will appease more people than it upsets.

It seems to me that some PvE'rs didn't know this was coming. I don't recall anything officially mentioned in game and there are hordes who don't read fora/wiki pages, and as this forum shows a leaning towards PvP I understand the disdain being shown for what seems an unnecessary update. However, I believe more feel-good-factor will come out of this than ill-feeling. Some players will log in and be completely (and pleasantly) surprised with the storage update, some will have expected more but free stuff is always good and if there are more happy PvE'rs than unhappy-PvP'rs then the game, overall, is in good shape.

If the current PvP meta is so broken in someone's view then put the game down until it is fixed. It costs nothing to do so. If the game is not fun then don't load it. GW's metrics will show any decreases in active population and they will be able to target areas that make business sense to attract, but Anet are all too aware of the need for skill-balancing and so you can be sure that it will be addressed.

I believe that the larger chunk of GW2's player-base will also be PvE'rs and this is therefore the market segment to keep sweet. Having said that, I would hope to see some PvP changes made to GW1 soon to strengthen ties with that segment leading up to the introduction of GW2.

Just a guess here

Probably when one skill becomes the focus for a series of builds and begins to dominate pvp or to a lesser extent pve they think about balancing it.

Makes sense to me that when the variety of builds decreases in pvp it becomes a little boring and when the farming side of pve becomes exploited by a skill combo its time to do something.
The fact that those using the skill will get upset is no reason not to try to fix the problem.

No skill balance this month, but another bigger update coming, fair trade enough.

But what about today's update ? ^^

Fix your game, my god.

PvE updates are incredibly important.
How can the whole game be called unbalanced when everyone has access to the same skills?

Also ty Regina for the update on the update.

Did you even read the first post?

Seriously though, threads like these are always a hilarious read. The PVP vs PVE Wars continue. Surely there are still others who enjoy both aspects of the game, right? I'm all for this update but hope the next one is all PVP based so the PVEers can whine about how much ArenaNet hates them.

Won't happen, anet realized a long time ago the mass cares about just about PVE. Thats when the game started going downwards. Shortly after that, they realized the crowd playing GW doesnt like having to think at all. So they nubbed everything down. EVERYTHING. And nubbed it down a lot.
That kind of thinking got us where we are. And thats what spawned the ridiculous expansion Eye of the North, which not only managed to make PVE extremely dull, but also reduce any interest left to PvP.

A remarkable amount of people complained because there was no info on GW2, so they screamed for more content. Now more content is in the works and PVP has had the past I don't know...year of exclusive updates and developer work and PVE gets an elite tweak here and there.

It's one mere month for the PVE content and here's the shitstorm in full force, honestly over react more.

I'm anticipating this update as I'm one of probably many who don't salivate over zkeys and grab as many accounts as I can, my storage and mules are packed and pvp only chars are here today gone tomorrow for me.I'm looking forward to this update and I'm probably not the only one.
